BIO

I grew up in Taormina, Sicily. I began discovering music when I was ten years old - I chose the saxophone, which immediately caught my eye because of its colour, shape and special sound. I took my first lessons at a private music school and after a few years I was already playing in several brass bands.

After reaching the minimum age of 13, I began the formal classical music studies offered by Italian conservatories. During this seven-year course, which I began in Messina and completed in 2012 at the "F. Morlacchi" Conservatory in Perugia, I focused on the tradition of European classical music under the guidance of my teacher Mario Raja. After graduating from high school, I decided to start a professional career as a musician because, despite my great interest in mathematics and physics, I realised that only in music would I find true fulfilment, satisfaction and happiness.
Towards the end of my conservatory studies and after graduation, I turned more towards jazz and contemporary music. My great idols were famous 20th century saxophonists such as Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, and so I was increasingly drawn to jazz. I performed in various formations at jazz festivals in Italy and Germany, including the "Festival dei Due Mondi" in Spoleto and the Taormina Jazz Festival. At the same time, I have always tried not to commit myself to a certain musical style, but to explore other genres in different groups and to be open to new things. Over the years I have performed with many different bands and orchestras, playing genres such as rock, funk, pop and blues. My musical experience ranges from classical symphony concerts to large festivals with thousands of visitors.
My love for the saxophone has developed over the years and is still very much alive. It fascinates me how every saxophonist has his own special sound, different from all the others, and how you can model and develop your own sound exactly according to your musical requirements - or why the sound of my old idols is so clearly recognisable as "old style" and so different from a sound of today.
Since 2013 I have been living in Berlin, where I participate in the lively and diverse music scene and collaborate with bands and musicians for concert projects and recordings. Since 2018 I have been working as a music teacher at the Freie Musikschule Brandenburg, the Domgymnasium Brandenburg and the Jüttner Musikschule Pankow, among others, and I also enjoy making music with children.
